The Aladdin Hotel and Casino once embodied a "One Thousand and One Nights" theme. In the 1960s, a 15-foot "Aladdin's Lamp" sign was erected in front of the property for $750,000. In the 1970s, a porte-cochere was added to complement the resort's arabesques towers for $250,000. In the late 1990s, the casino was demolished to construct an even larger resort with an even more luxurious "Arabian Nights" vibe. In 2000, the stunning new property opened with the Aladdin Theater for the Performing Arts. The theater, at the time, was the best concert venue in town. Stanford saw the Grateful Dead, Eric Clapton and so many great bands there. In 2003, the property was sold to become Planet Hollywood. All the interior elements of the by-gone era were removed. Thankfully, Aladdin's Lamp was donated to The Neon Museum for preservation. While visiting the museum's Boneyard, Stanford photographed the vintage sign in its new outdoor habitat, full of missing bulbs, yet somehow glowing under the Vegas sun... just waiting to be lit once more! Stanford transformed the photograph into this exquisite work of art by creating unique individual layers, fully embodying the allure of days past, to create a stunning modern mandala. There are many variations found in Stanford's Shimmering Zen, Aladdin series. Aladdin 4.1 is a treasure to be enjoyed by discerning collectors.
